La Catrina — the elegant feminine skeleton figure you've likely seen around this time of year. First created by Mexican printmaker José Guadalupe Posada, she has become a symbol associated with Día de los Muertos (and sometimes mistaken as a Halloween character). 

But where European and Halloween imagery tends to treat skeletons and death as something eerie or frightening, Catrina reflects a different tradition. In many Latin American cultures, death isn't hidden away or feared, it's treated with familiarity, humor, and even affection, a natural part of life rather than the end of connection to it. Catrina embodies that spirit: elegant, playful, and unafraid, a celebration of life as much as a nod to death. 

Join us for a costume and cocktail event around La Catrina. Bring your best version and see who takes home Best Catrina. Costumes are welcome and encouraged, we just ask that all attire stays respectful of the evening and the character of La Catrina, elegant and expressive rather than overly revealing. 

This is an adults-only evening, with food, drinks, and activities to enjoy.
